Why do download speeds differ from connection speeds?

Sometimes when connected at a high speed my download speed is slower. There are a number of factors, which can affect this:

1.The actual location of the site you are connecting to or downloading from.

2.The size of the link you are connecting to the Internet.

3.The speed of the host server.

4.The amount of traffic on the Net. You may want to visit the site later.
